Tahajjud after tarawih
Question:
Assalamualaikum. In the month of Ramadan, after performing tarawih prayer with witr, may perform tahajjud prayer before meals and ended with witr also? thanks.

ANSWER:
Wa'alaikumussalam wa rahmatullah ...
At-Turmudzi in his sunan mentioned the difference of scholars about the laws of people who had witr in the early evening, then want tahajud at the end of the night.
First, some later generations and clerics argue, that the witr in the early night should be canceled. By the way, he prays 1 rakaat as the fulfillment of the witr which he did in the early night. Next he can pray tahajud as he wants, then witr again at the end of the night. The word Turmudzi, this is Ishaq ibn Rahuyah's opinion.
Secondly, other scholars among the companions (Shahabat) and later generations say, people who have witr in the early night then want tahajud at the end of the night, then he can directly pray according to what he wants, and no need to cancel the witr. Only, he should not be do witr pray again.
This is the opinion of Sufyan at-Tsauri, Imam Malik, Ibnul Mubarok, Imam Syafii, cleric of kufa, and Imam Ahmad.
Then Turmudzi concluded,
وهذا أصح لأنه روي من غير وجه أن النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم قد صلى بعد الوتر
The second opinion is stronger. Because there are some narrations from the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam that he prays after witr.
(Sunan at-Turmudzi, 2/318).
Therefore, it is permissible for people who have already performed tarawih prayers to add more night prayer with tahajud prayer. It's just that we suggest two things:
First , Should follow Imam until the end of pray , and do not go home before the Imam does the witr. The goal, so we get the virtue of a reward like a full night's prayer. As mentioned in the hadith from Abu Dhar, the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said,
من قام مع الإمام حتى ينصرف كتب له قيام ليلة
" Anyone who participates in the tarawih prayer with the Imam to the end is for him to be recorded like all night prayers ."
(Narrated by Nasai 1605, Turmudzi 811, and restated Syu'aib al-Arnauth)
Secondly , it should not do witr twice. If already witr with imam then tahajud should not be witr again. This is based on hadith,
لا وتران فى ليلة
" There can be no two witr in one night ."
(Narrated Abu Daud 1441, Nasai 1679, and restated Syu'aib al-Arnauth)
In Fatwa Lajnah Daimah mentioned,
"If you pray tarawih with the imam then the main thing is to do the witr with the imam, in order to get the perfect reward, as mentioned in the hadith, ' Whoever participates tarawih prayer with the imam to completion, so for him it is recorded like all night prayer .'
(Abu Dawud and Turmudzi).
If you wake up at the end of the night and want to add prayer then please pray as you wish, but without witr, because there is no witr in overnight. "
(Fatwa Lajnah Daimah, 6/45).
How to End Tarawih with Imam?
There are two ways:
[1] You join the witr prayer with the imam to the end, and then no witr again.
Dr. Shaleh al-Fauzan said,
"If anyone tarawih prayer and witr prayer with imam, then he woke up night and perform tahajud then it is allowed, and he does not need to repeat the witr, but enough with the witr that he perform with the imam .... If he wants to end the witr at the end of the night then it is permissible, but he does not get the virtue of following the imam (see Narrated by Nasai 1605, Turmudzi 811, and restated Syu'aib al-Arnauth above). The most important thing is to follow the imam and the witr along with the imam. Given the word of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam , ' Whoever participates in tarawih prayer together with the imam to completion then for him it is recorded like all night prayer . ' He should follow the imam, the witr with the imam, and do not make this as a barrier to wake up at the end of the night in order to tahajud. "

[2] When the priest greets (Salaam) at the time of the witr prayer, you stand and fulfill it with one rakah, so you have not considered witir. Then, at the end of the night, you can pray tahajud and do witr.
Shaykh Muhammad ibn Shaleh al-Uthaymeen explained,
"If the person who wants to pray tahajud follow the imam in the witr prayer then he should fulfill, with him add one rakaat. This is one way for people who want tahajud. He joined the imam in the witr prayer and he fixed his rakaat by adding one rakaat, so his last prayer at night is the witr prayer .... Thus, in this way, he will get two deed (Amal): follow the priest to the end and he also gets the sunna making the end of the night prayer with the witr prayer. This is a good deed (Amal)."
