The spirit and the core of the prayer are present and solemn of the heart when performing the prayer. Therefore, the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam ordered to eliminate the causes that could disturb the prayer khushu' (Concentration). For example, if the stomach is very hungry and the food is served, then they should eat first before prayer. Similarly, should "to the restroom" first before praying if you need it.

Among the things that concerns the heart and mind when praying is a prayer while holding and reading Mus'haf Al-Qur'an. For example, he prays behind the imam while reciting the Qur'an to follow the imam's reading.

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih Al-'Uthaimin rahimahullahu Ta'ala explains that this kind of deed will cause forbidden things:

First, he does a lot of unneeded moves. That is, taking a Mushaf (manuscript) (eg from a shirt pocket), opening the sheets of mus'haf, and closing the mushaf. Sometimes it could be that the mushaf text is small so it takes extra effort to read it. These are all movements (outside of the need for prayer) that are many and not necessarily.

Secondly, this act will occupy itself from the sunnah that should be done, that is putting the right hand on the left hand on the chest. Putting a hand like this is among the things prescribed in prayer. If he busied himself by reading the mushaf, then he was hindered from carrying out the sunnah laying his hands on the chest.

Third, he preoccupied his vision to move from the top of the mushaf to the bottom, from the beginning of the mus'haf to the next page. It can also be judged as a movement (ie eye movement), as hand movements, feet, and so on. Therefore, without hesitation, he busied himself with eye movements to follow (read) the sentences in the Mushaf.

Fourthly, this person seems to separate himself from the prayers jamaah, to judge whether the imam's reading is true or false. His heart was as if more away from khushu'.

However, if this is indeed necessary, for example when the imam in his reading or memorization is not perfect, and the Imam asks some makmum to stand behind him and read the mus'haf for correcting if there is a false reading, then this is permissible because there is a need.
