Why Is The Story Of Musa (Moses) Repeated Many Times InThe Qur'an?

Why is Musa's Story the Most In the Qur'an?

Why is the story of Moses/Musa repeated many times in the Koran? What's the background?

Bismillah was shalatu was salamu 'ala Rasulillah, wa ba'du,

Moses/Musa ' alayhis salam is the most glorious prophet among the Children of Israel. He holds a kalimullah - the person whom Allah is addressing directly in the world -. And he is one of the prophet ulul azmi. In the Qur'an, his journey is most mentioned by Allah, after Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam. Some who count, his name mentioned 136 times in the Koran/Quran.

The story of Moses (Musa) mentioned in detail in 4 Surah: al-Baqarah, al-A'raf, Thaha, and al-Qasas. His people, the Children of Israel, were the most afdhal people of his day. Allah says,

O Children of Israel, remember My favor that I have bestowed upon you and that I preferred you over the worlds

And it should be understood, the people of Muhammad sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam better than them. Because Allah calls the people of Muhammad as khoiru ummah. Allah says,

كنتم خير أمة أخرجت للناس

"You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah. If only the People of the Scripture had believed, it would have been better for them. Among them are believers, but most of them are defiantly disobedient."

To Contemplate

When the story of Moses/Musa is mentioned "much" in the Qur'an, it shows that Allah wants us to contemplate the journey of His life. Take a lesson on how tough test Moses experienced. From beginning to face Pharaoh (fir'aun), to face the stubborn Children of Israel.

Allah called Moses in the Qur'an, as the Prophet who gets many exams,

...وفتناك فتونا...

"[And We favored you] when your sister went and said, 'Shall I direct you to someone who will be responsible for him?' So We restored you to your mother that she might be content and not grieve. And you killed someone, but We saved you from retaliation and tried you with a [severe] trial. And you remained [some] years among the people of Madyan. Then you came [here] at the decreed time, O Moses."

The test of Moses is a test of living through society. Not a test of poverty, a sick test, or a natural disaster. The test, very similar to what will be experienced by the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam and the Muslims who became his people.

Said bin Jubair once asked Ibn Abbas radhiyallahu ' anhuma, what is futun (many exams).

Then Ibn Abbas read the verses that tell Moses (Musa) from the beginning. He mentioned the story of Pharaoh (fir'aun), the attempted massacre he committed against the male infant, then the story of Moses was thrown into the river and found by the Pharaohs (firaun) Family. Then the story of Moses drew the beard of the Fir'aun (pharaoh), until Moses was given a choice between dates and coals. Including the story he killed the Egyptian, then he ran to Madyan and married one of the parents' daughters in Madyan. Then Moses returned to Egypt, and he went wrong in the darkness of night, until he saw fire and received revelation from Allah.

Said Ibn Zubair,

وكان عند تمام كل واحدة منها يقول هذا من الفتون يا ابن جبير

After Ibn Abbas mentioned it all, he said, "These are slanders, O Ibn Jubair."
(Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 5/285).

Allahu a'lam.
