Danger Ikhtilath Mix Opposite Types (male and female)

Question:

Bismillah, Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh, I want to ask, please ask for an explanation about the dangers of ikhtilat.

Answer:

Wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullahi wabarakatuh, bismillahi wassholaatu wassalaamu ala Rasulillah,

My dear brothers and sisters, Iktilath (mixed men and women in one place) is prohibited in the Islamic religion, as Islam forbids adultery, everything that leads to adultery is forbidden, as the word of Allah Allah:

ولا تقربوا الزنى إنه كان فاحشة وساء سبيلا

"And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way."

In interpreting this verse, Al Hafizh ibn Kathir said:

يقول تعالى ناهيا عباده عن الزنى وعن مقاربته, وهو مخالطة أسبابه ودواعيه

"Allah Ta'ala forbids His servants from adultery and acts which bring closer to adultery, namely ikhtilath with the causes and all things that encourage the adultery."
(Umdatut Tafsir: 2 / 428)

From the side of danger, of course, Ikhtilath has a great danger, namely damaging one's heart so that it is compelled to think about adultery and even do it, even though the heart is a lump of flesh that determines the good or bad of one's temperament, the danger of Iktilath starts from the eye which then moves enter into the heart, even though Allah ﷻ commands that we keep eyes:

قل للمؤمنين يغضوا من أبصارهم ويحفظوا فروجهم ذلك أزكى لهم إن الله خبير بما يصنعون

"Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do."

Rasulullah ﷺ also said:

"Adultery of the eyes is by looking."
(Narrated by Muslim: 4082)

So that in interpreting the verse, Al Hafizh Ibn Kathir said:

ولما كان النظر داعية إلى فساد القلب, كما قال بعض السلف: (النظر سهام سم إلى القلب), ولذلك أمر الله بحفظ الفروج كما بمف بحفظ الأبصار التي

"And when a view is a driver for damaging the heart, as some salaf says: (The view is an arrow that is poisonous to the heart), therefore as Allah ﷻ commands to keep the genitals, Allah also commands to keep the view that is the driver. (Umdatut Tafsir: 2/653), this was also mentioned by Syaikhul Islam ibnu Taimiyyah in his Majmuah Fatawa. "
(Majmuatul fatawa: 8/230)

So that many of the ulamas forbid men to see the faces of women who are not mahram and not their wives without needs such as nazhor for marriage, medicine, testimony and mu'amalah (buying and selling), this is written in the books of the Imam's school As-Shafi'i is like Matan Abu Syuja '.
(Matan al-Ghoyah wat Taqrib: 73-74).

Syaikhul Islam ibn Taymiyah said:

أن الراجح في مذهب الشافعي وأحمد أن النظر ألى وجه الأجنبية من غير حاجة لا يجوز, وإن كانت الشهوة منتفية, لكن لأنه يخاف ثورانهأ, ولهذا حرم الخلوة بالأجنبية, لأنه مظنة الفتنة, والأصل أن كلما كان سببا للفتنة فإنه لا يجوز, فإن الذريعة إلى الفساد سدها إذا لم يعارضها مصلحة راجحة

"Indeed a strong opinion is in the Shafi'i and Ahmad schools that looking at the face of a woman who is not a mahram without need is not permitted, even without lust, but this view is prohibited because fear is aroused by it, and because this is prohibited (both couple) male with a woman who is not a mahram, because that's is a source of fitnah. Basically everything that becomes a cause for Fitnah is prohibited, and in fact, the means to damage must be closed if it does not conflict with the expected harm. "
(Majmuatul Fatawa: 8/243).

Likewise the case with women, it is inappropriate for them to look at men, Allah says:

وقل للمؤمنات يغضضن من أبصارهن ويحفظن فروجهن

"And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their women, that which their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed."

Al Hafizh Ibn Kathir explained:

"And with this verse most scholars say that basically it is not permissible for women to look at men who are not mahram, whether by lust or without lust"
(Umdatut Tafsir: 2/654)

My dear brothers and sisters, for this reason the prohibition of ikhtilath is mixed with men and women in the same place without obstructions, such as in schools, campuses, mosques, scientific assemblies, houses and so on, because one's heart is very weak, while the lust always invites evil:

"And I do not acquit myself. Indeed, the soul is a persistent enjoiner of evil, except those upon which my Lord has mercy. Indeed, my Lord is Forgiving and Merciful."

The biggest danger posed by ikhtilath is adultery, and adultery is one of the major sins, whose impact is very dangerous for the survival of a servant in the world as well as destroying his afterlife, so that all forms of activity that lead a person to adultery must be closed as close as possible.
