The Law of Tahiyyatul Masjid Prayer

Tahiyyatul Masjid Prayer Law

The Law of Tahiyyatul Masjid Prayer. what is the law? Tahiyyatul Masjid Prayer Law.

From Abu Qatadah As Sulami radhiallahu'anhu , the Prophet Sallallaahu'alaihi Wasallam said:

إِذَا دَخَلَ أَحَدُكُمُ المَسْجِدَ فَلْيَرْكَعْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَجْلِسَ

"If one of you enters the mosque, then pray two rakaah before sitting down"

In other history:

"If one of you enters the mosque, then don't sit until he prays two rak'ahs"

(HR. Bukhari no. 444, Muslim no. 714).

From Jabir bin Abdillah radhiallahu'anhu , he said:

جاء سليك الغطفاني يوم الجمعة, ورسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يخطب, فجلس, فقال له: (يا سليك, قم فاركع ركعتين, وتجوز فيهما), ثم قال: (إذا جاء أحدكم يوم الجمعة, والإمام يخطب, فليركع ركعتين, وليتجوز فيهما

"Al Ghathafani Sulaik came on Friday when the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam was preaching. Sulaik sits down. Then the Prophet said: O Sulaik, stand up then pray two rak'ahs and speed up your prayer ". Then after that the Prophet said: "If you come to the mosque on Friday when the Imam has preached, then pray two rak'ahs and speed up the prayer"

(HR. Muslim no. 875).

From the hadiths above, some scholars say that the mosque prayer is obligatory. Because the above hadiths use a form of command and prohibition to sit before two rak'ah prayers.

Among those who thought so were Shaykh Muhammad Nashiruddin Al Albani, Shaykh Muqbil bin Hadi, Shaykh Muhammad Ali Farkus, and other scholars.

However, jumhur ulama are of the opinion that the tahiyyatul Masjid prayer is the law of the sunnah muakkadah. Based on several propositions including the hadith Dhimam bin Tsa'labah radhiallahu'anhu ,  who asked the Prophet:

فإذا هو يسأل عن الإسلام, فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «خمس صلوات في اليوم والليلة», فقال: «هل علي غيرها?» قال: «لا, إلا أن تطوع»

"He asked the Prophet about Islam. Then the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam answered: pray 5 times a day and night. The person asked again: is there another prayer that is obligatory for me? The Prophet replied: there is no, unless you want to pray sunnah "

(Narrated by Bukhari no. 47, Muslim no. 11).

This hadith disclaims the existence of the obligatory prayer in addition to prayer 5 times. Then the mosque's tahiyyatul prayer does not reach the legal requirement. And several other propositions that deviate from mandatory law.

This is the opinion of the scholars of 4 schools and is also strengthened by Shaykh Ibn Al Utsaimin, Shaykh Ibn Baz, Shalih Al Fauzan Shaykh, Al Lajnah Ad Daimah. Ijma even mentioned by some scholars. Ibn Hajar rahimahullah said:

واتفق أئمة الفتوى على أن الأمر في ذلك للندب , ونقل ابن بطال عن أهل الظاهر الوجوب, والذي صرح به ابن حزم عدمه

"Fatwa imams have agreed that the command in these hadiths is to advocate. Ibn Bathal quoted the opinion of the Zhahiri madzhab that they thought the law was obligatory, which clearly stated that it was Ibn Hazm ”

( Fathul Baari , 1 / 538-539).

This opinion is more diligent, tahiyyatul prayer the mosque is the law of sunnah muakkadah , Allah knows best. wallahu a’lam.
