1. Allah’s Commandment on Qurban

The command for this sacrifice has been revealed by Allah in the Quran. Qurban in Islam is essentially a form of devotion and resignation of his devoted servant in carrying out Allah’s commands. Below here is Allah Almighty says in Holy Book of Quran. 



 إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ, فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَانْحَرْ 
“Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muhammad], al-Kawthar. So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone]. “

2. The law of Qurban in Islam


In Islam, the law of Qurban is Sunnah Mu’akkadah which means this Sunnah is preferred. This means that it is mandatory for Muslims who have more property to perform the Qurban. Below here is described in the hadith.



“Who finds himself in a state of affairs, then he does not sacrifice, so do not get near where we prayed (Salat).” 
(Ahmad and Ibn Majah)

3. Implementation of Qurban


Implementation of an animal slaughter of Qurban is usually done after performing Eid al-Adha prayer. After the 13th of Dhul-Hijjah or before the Eid al-Adha prayer is not valid the slaughter of the Qurban animals. Below is the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said in his hadith. 



“Whoever prays like us, then the Qurban is true. And whoever slaughters it before the prayer, then let him replace it with another.”
(Bukhari and Muslim)


4. Tasyriq Day


Tasyriq Day is a day that is not allowed for fasting Muslims and coincides with the 11th, 12th, and 13th Dzulhijah in the Islamic calendar (do not fast in this days). These days are three days after Idul Adha and are usually used for the practice of cutting qurban animals. Below is the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said in his hadith. 



“All days of Tasyriq is a time of slaughter” 
(Ahmad)


5. Conditions for implementing Qurban


The person appointed is a Muslim and the person with the ability to bring Qurban (has the advantage of wealth). If he can not sacrifice, then they are entitled to receive meat of qurban. Below here Allah Almighty says in the Quran.




قُلْ إِنَّ صَلَاتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ ۖ وَبِذَٰلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ
“Say, "Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds.
No partner has He. And this I have been commanded, and I am the first [among you] of the Muslims.”

6. Animals that used in Qurban


What are the Qurban animals that used in Islam? The sacrificial animals used are usually four-legged, with physical and health conditions. Examples of livestock that are commonly used for Qurban are sheep, goats, cattle, and camels. Below here Allah Almighty says in the Quran. 



وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ جَعَلْنَا مَنْسَكًا لِيَذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَلَىٰ مَا رَزَقَهُمْ مِنْ بَهِيمَةِ الْأَنْعَامِ ۗ فَإِلَٰهُكُمْ إِلَٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ فَلَهُ أَسْلِمُوا ۗ وَبَشِّرِ الْمُخْبِتِينَ
“And for all religion We have appointed a rite [of sacrifice] that they may mention the name of Allah over what He has provided for them of [sacrificial] animals. For your god is one God, so to Him submit. And, [O Muhammad], give good tidings to the humble [before their Lord]". 


7. Age of the Qurban


It is important to know in the selection of animals qurban, in addition to a healthy physical it would be good that the age of the animal is feasible for Qurban.


The livestock marks are ready for qurban usually marked by the condition of cattle’s teeth that has changed. Below is the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said in his hadith.



“Let not you slaughter (qurban) except Musinnah (have changed teeth). Unless it is difficult for you then you can slaughter a year-old jadza’ah sheep from a goat. “
(Muslim)


8. A goat for a family


If you want qurban with a goat, your goat’s qurban is enough for one of your family. In fact, Islam does not specify qurban for one member of his family. Below is the hadith of the Prophet SAW narrated by Abu Ayyub RA.



“In the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) a person (husband) slaughtered a goat as qurban for himself and his family.” 
(Tirmidhi)



9. Terms of slaughter for cows and camels


For any Muslim who wants Qurban with a cow then the provision is made for seven people. If a Muslim wants to sacrifice the camel, then his provision is for ten people. This provision has been established since the time of the Prophet SAW. Here below he said in his hadith.



“In the past, we had Safar with Rasulullah SAW and then the feast of Eid al-Adha then we were the union of ten people to qurban a camel. As for a cow, we are united as many as seven people. “
(Ibn Majah)


10. The signs of Qurban animal that is not accepted in Islam


Whoever wants to sacrifice livestock but its condition is flawed then the law is invalid. So, what are the signs of Qurban animal that are not accepted in Islam? The following below Rasulullah SAW has explained in a hadith about what animal disability should be avoided when going Qurban



“There are four defects that are not allowed in animals qurban: 1. Blind next door and clear blindness, 2. Sick and obviously ill. 3. Limp and clear limp. 4. Very skinny to the point of not having bone marrow. “

11. Animals worthy of sacrifice


Make sure the animal to be sacrificed is a fat animal and it has a perfect physical. The qurban animals that have the criteria like this are most preferred and more important for Qurban.


The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) always bought two goats that have a perfect physical and have a fat body. Below here is a hadith that said by Prophet Muhammad (SAW).



“The Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam when he wanted to slaughter qurban, he bought two big and fat goats, horns, it has white color… “ 
(Ibnu Majah and Ahmad)


12. Terms of the sex of animal Qurban


The sex of the animal to be sacrificed is usually male. However, it is possible if no one is allowed to sacrifice livestock. The female livestock who is pregnant can be made qurban animals, provided it is fat and it has a good physical and it is not any disabled. The following below here is mentioned in the hadith. 



“Aqiqah for boys two goats and one goat’s daughter. It does not matter the males and females.”
(Ahmad)

13. Prohibition of people who wants to perform Qurban


For anyone who wants to do Qurban, you do not cut the nails and cut hair. This applies to anyone who wants to perform qurban. Below here is the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said in his hadith.



“If you have entered the first ten days (the month of Dzulhijjah) while amongst you want to do Qurban then do not touch the slightest part of his hair and skin.” (Muslim)


14. Qurban animal slaughterhouse


The slaughtering site of qurban animal that is used by Prophet Muhammad SAW is the land of the field where the perform of Eid Al-Adha is held. The aim is to inform the Muslims that slaughtering Qurban it will be realized. Below here is a hadith narrated by Ibn Umar. 



“The Prophet Sallallahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam used to slaughter a goat and a camel (qurban) in the field where the prayer.” 
(Bukhari)

15. The procedure of slaughtering the animals of Qurban


Shohibul qurban or the person who slaughtered the qurban animal is Sunnah to slaughter his own qurban, but if he is unable to do so he may represent it to others.


The ordinance in slaughtering qurban animals should use sharp tools, such as knives, animals should lay on its left hull and faced with the Qibla. The most important thing when going to read “Bismillah Wallaahu Akbar”. Below is a hadith narrated by Jabir bin ‘Abdillah RA.



“I attended Eid Al-Adha prayer with the Prophet Sallallahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam in the field. After he preached, he came down from his pulpit and he presented him a goat. Then the Prophet Sallallahu ‘Alai wa Sallam slaughtered it with his hand, saying:’

In the name of Allah, Allah is Great ‘This goat is from me and from people who have not yet slaughtered among my people. “
(Ahmad, Abu Dawud, and Tirmidhi)

16. The result of animal sacrifice Qurban


The distribution of the sacrificed qurban results is to get one-third of the slaughtering of qurban animals. However, if the person sacrificing wants to leave it for alms, it is permissible. The division of the results of animal slaughter qurban is reinforced in the following hadith which is narrated by Ali bin Abi Thalib RA.



“The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) commands him to take care of the camels of hadith. He ordered to divide all of his qurban meat, his skin and it’s (the skin on the camel’s back to protect from the cold) for the poor. And he is not allowed to give any part of the qurban to the butcher (as wages). “
(Bukhari and Muslim)


17. Giving alms meat qurban


Giving alms meat to other people (especially the poor) the law is sunnah. Every year the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) always does this, some of his qurban results are eaten, others are given to others, and others are kept (anticipating if there is a famine season so people have difficulty eating). Below here is Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘alaihi Wa Sallam said in his hadith.



“Anyone among you who sacrifices then does not let him find the dawn of the third day after Eid Al-Adha while the flesh is still a little bit left.” When the next year came the friends said, “O Messenger of Allah, do we have to do as last year?” So he replied, “(As for now) Eat some, some give it to others and part store it. In the last year, people are having trouble (food) so I want you to help them with that.”
(Bukhari and Muslim).
